About Me

My photo
Magnetic Island., Queensland., Australia
ARTIST PROFILE. (Edward Blum). I have painted and drawn since childhood, as a form of identity and purpose. It provides out side of family the single most powerful force predominating my life as far back as I can recollect and is symbiotic of my future. I look forward to this future which will be consumed pursuing art personally and professionally. As an artist I would like to capture the human condition, basic emotion and our essence. A freedom to look deeper than thought and express in a far more powerful medium, using color figuratively and in abstracted form. A universal language defined by the human condition. It is this place in the human psyche where what we visualize is interwoven not only by what we interpret that we see. But is also tainted by the shadow of our past. A distortion of our perceptions of reality as we believe it to be.. Ultimately it is here that my mind finds interest, and I foresee my artistic future evolving.

Lady and the Umbrella.

Painting in Progress.
Winter Landscape A. Personnaz. 1905.
The lady with the Umbrella first entered my life, when I saw this photograph about three years ago. She instantly captivated me. Her being in the environment she is in, that presence. Was she sad? Why was she so alone? What was she doing? What was her story?
I realized that her presence would be a part of my life forever, her untold story is a part of me. What she evokes in me is relative to my human condition. She is a symbol.
Lady and the Umbrella.
The "Lady and the umbrella". I began prior Christmas. In my art recurring images are something that provides a reference for existence. She will always be my friend and I have no doubt she will recur in my paintings through out my life.
To me she is a Metaphor of solitude, embracing her own future refined in her fate. It is not that she is oblivious to the waves that are devouring her space or her only means of escape. Nor is it the beauty of the sun set that she seeks. She is completely  aware of her own environment.

She is en-cloaked entirely in black yet she is bathed in the light of the setting suns last rays. The suns rays embrace her, with their warmth. My wife asked me why would she have an umbrella at sunset? I replied, " why wouldn't she?" "She's the lady with the umbrella".

    1. Thank you Sheridan, that means a lot to me. The gravity of that meaning could only be expressed when I look at your art and read the things you say. You have a connection to yourself and the universe that is very special. I see earth and aether, the colours in your faces, and the humanity is beautiful.

  8. Thanks Edward for the fine comments on my work - Consistant! I like that - sometimes my painting is the only certainty in a chaotic world -
Your work is really vivid and I envy that colour - and light - we are in Winter here in Ireland- which has a muted beauty of its own - are you off Australia or New Zealand! - forgive the geographical ignorance! Cormac

    1. It is me that should be thanking you. The Amazon is very special as is the Xingu. The consequences well affect all mankind. Some things have to be held sacred. Bad things happen because good people do nothing. I regularly post your links on face book as does my wife. I would urge all readers of my blog to become familiar with it and do the same.
